Floors I dream about
Right now I’m dreaming about changing the floor in my kitchen. When it comes to floors, it really isn’t easy to find what you’re looking for in a jungle of colours, material, and different theories from salesmen about which type of floor is best. Personally, I always go with my gut feeling (a true artistic soul :) and therefore it’s so nice that my heart has made up its mind. It has always beaten a little faster about a classical black and white floor, and every time I see one it’s just checkmate :)
The strange thing is that a chequered floor works well anywhere – in the kitchen, bathroom or hallway. I haven’t seen a situation where a chequered floor doesn’t work. These black and white squares always make even the most boring of rooms feel classy.
The kitchen is a room that puts up with pretty much everything and therefore a durable floor is especially important. Wear and tear, spills, and water take their toll on most materials. Wooden floors are great, but they don’t work as well in the kitchen, where stone, linoleum, or plastic tend to work better.
Buying a new floor is a little like buying a new handbag – it needs to be the right colour, feeling, and of high quality if it is going to last. If you are tempted to buy something cheap, it often ends up costing you more in the long run as you may need to replace it more often. Therefore I can just say that floors, handbags, or anything else…quality always pays off in the long run :)
