Swedish homes: Decor ideas

Our Swedish homes are world-renowned for beautiful and clean decor. If you live outside of Sweden but want to get the Scandinavian style at your place, just follow a few simple rules. Here are my suggestions for creating your very own Swedish home :)

Swedish homes

svenska hem
A beautiful house with tower in Huddinge, outside of Stockholm.

Entry: An open and clean entryway gives a welcoming feeling to Swedish homes.

vardagsrum
Living room: White painted wooden floor, off-white walls, decorative sofa cushions and a hot and comfortable sofa.

kakelugn matsal
Ceramic tile fire place: All Swedish homes must have at least one ceramic tile fireplace!

Kitchen: A lot of storage, large working areas and a little accent colour. Clean – not with lots of nic-nacs everywhere!

badrumsinredning med kalel
Bathroom: A lot of stone tiles, a heated floor, and surfaces that are easy to clean.

kakelugn barnrum
Children’s rooms: Many Swedish homes have of course children’s room. This one has clean colours and even a ceramic tile fireplace. Luxury!

sovrumsinredning
Master bedroom: Neutral fabrics with accent colours. (I’m not totally convinced about the wallpaper in this bedroom though!)

walkin closet
Wardrobe: Neat and tidy is what counts in the majority of Swedish homes.

hemmakontor
Home office: Ergonomically designed office chair, hardwood floor, and a lot of space for storage.

bastu
Sauna: Compulsory in all Swedish homes! (If you really want to be Swedish, use the sauna to dry your clothes between naked cold plunges in the sea or lake :)

svensk stuga
Guest house: Light and spartan with fabrics and cushion from Lexington.

veranda
Verandah: Wooden outdoor furniture, maybe a blanket handy (for cold Autumn nights). Preferably a beautiful view across forests and lakes.

svenska hem2
Words that best describe Swedish homes in my mind are: clean, light, fresh, uncomplicated and beautiful.

What do you think is the best way to get that Scandinavian feeling at home?
